New Year, New Congress, New Opportunities:

    HC to DC Legislative Trip

Your El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Advocacy division will be going to Washington DC during the week of March 28, 2011.  The trip is part of the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s HC to DC legislative jaunt in partnership with the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) 21st Annual Legislative Summit.

“Now more than ever, it is important the incoming 112th congress be aware of the issues that are impacting our border businesses.  It is of high importance that voice our concerns to our legislative leaders and also represent our business community,” said Cindy Ramos-Davidson, CEO of your El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

Each year your El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce meets with the leading voices behind our businesses as part of our annual legislative trip.  During the event business members will be able to meet the national legislative advocates for the business community and the federal contracting authorizes for small businesses.  During the 2011 HC to DC voyage delegates will be meeting with various national leaders to discuss issues pertaining to procurement, healthcare, business taxes, access to capital and business commerce among other issues.

“Our participation during this essential time will strengthen our voice and representation on the nation's future and will make sure our issues are near the top of the national business agenda,” added Ramos-Davidson.

In addition to taking Capitol Hill and advocating for the business needs of our borderland community the 2011 Legislative trip is also held in partnership with the 21st USHCC Legislative Summit.  As a USHCC tradition, the legislative summit will provide the premier platform for Hispanic business owners, chamber leaders and corporate executives to advocate for the important issues affecting the Hispanic business agenda.

“Our Legislative Summit provides an opportunity for the USHCC and our member chambers to gather in Washington, shortly after the new Congress convenes,” says Javier Palomarez, President and CEO of the USHCC.  “It is an important time to come together with our legislators and policymakers, so we can be part of the greater dialogue. “

Over the past year, the USHCC has continued its role as the national leading voice for the Hispanic business community, with decision makers from all levels of Congress and the Administration seeking input from the USHCC and consulting with its leaders and members as trusted experts on the policy issues of the day.

The annual legislative summit and 2011 HC to DC trip will be taken during a crucial time where a new congress brings to the table new issues, agendas and items.  Both veteran lawmakers and the newly-elected officials have an enormous obligation to stimulate and repair our economy. Congressional leadership is reacting to the new policies of the Administration, which will have a direct impact on the future of our enterprises and our community. Rules and regulations that impact our businesses and their bottom line are being designed, refined and tested.

“The purpose of our Legislative Summit is to give our constituents an opportunity to deepen relationships with leaders in Washington, to ensure that decisions affecting our community have a positive impact on the nearly 3 million businesses in the United States on behalf of which we advocate,” says USHCC Board Chairman, Nina Vaca-Humrichouse.

The delegates of your El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will gather in the nation's capital, giving the representative an unparalleled opportunity to stay ahead of the curve in terms of Congressional policy, programs and priorities during a key time.

“Currently, our legislative leaders have an enormous obligation to stimulate and repair the nation’s economy.  This is a strategic time to join us and be part of our strategic legislative delegation.  Now is the time to make a difference and represent our community nationally,” added Ramos-Davidson.
